RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks will make the school's first-ever NCAA playoff appearance as the number eight seed at Thursday's eight-team, double elimination Eau Claire Regional at 12:00 p.m. Ripon will have their work cut out for them, as they'll face top-seeded St. Thomas (MN), who is ranked third in the country with a 40-3 record, including a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championship.
This will be the Tommies' 11th trip to the NCAA playoffs in the last 12 years, while the Red Hawks are making their inaugural appearance. Both teams are riding a wave of momentum entering this year's playoffs. Ripon has won 14 of their last 17 games, including their first Midwest Conference championship, while St. Thomas has been victorious in their last 25 contests. The Tommies lead NCAA Division-III in batting, with a .397 average, while also hitting 56 home runs as a team.
If Ripon were to pull the upset, they would play again on Friday at 4:00 p.m. Should they lose, their second game will be Friday at 12:00 p.m.
The winner of the regional will advance to the College World Series on May 16-20 in Salem, Va.
