MENOMONIE, Wis. - After getting swept by UW-Stevens Point last week, the Red Hawk softball team hoped for a different result when they traveled to UW-Stout for a doubleheader, which was rescheduled due to rain over the weekend. They wouldn't get their wish, as the Blue Devils defeated the Red Hawks 9-1 in game one and 8-0 in game two. Both games went only five innings apiece.

The day started out just the way the Red Hawks (7-6) had hoped, as Natalie Geenen led the game off with her first home run of the season for the Red Hawks. That lead wouldn't last long though, after UW-Stout (7-7) scored three times in the bottom of the inning. They were jump started by a leadoff triple. That runner would score shortly thereafter and UW-Stout then took the lead on a two-run homer of their own.

The Blue Devils added a run in the second, before scoring four times in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Geenen led the way for Ripon, recording two of the team's three hits, including their only run and RBI. Tara Rabideaux was the only other Red Hawk with a hit. UW-Stout had four players with two hits.

Game two wasn't any easier for the Red Hawks. UW-Stout got down to business early, scoring two runs in the first and three more times in the second to get out to an early lead. Ripon recorded just two hits in the game, one of which came in the first inning on a Tara Rabideaux double. The other Red Hawk hit came via Mary Friend on a second inning single. UW-Stout recorded 10 hits in the game, including three players with two apiece.

Ripon will try to end their six-game skid Tuesday afternoon when they'll travel to Milwaukee to face Milwaukee School of Engineering. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
