Red Hawks Handle Farmingdale State With Ease

March 11, 2007

Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ripon softball team continued their white hot start to the season Sunday night. After sweeping a doubleheader against Goldey Beacom (DE) earlier in the day, the Red Hawks won their third game of the day, defeating Farmingdale State 8-0.

The Red Hawks were the beneficiaries of a couple Farmingdale State miscues early on, allowing them to jump ahead early. Natalie Geenen struck out to open the first inning, but showed a heads up play by racing to first base as the ball sailed by the FSU catcher. After another wild pitch, Geenen stood on second base, and would score on an error two batters later.

Ripon got three more runs in the third inning, before scoring twice in the fourth. The Red Hawks would then tack on two more insurance runs in the final frame. Farmingdale State put Ripon in good position all day, as the Rams commited five errors on the day. Half of the Red Hawk's eight runs were unearned, while Framingham State threw two wild pitches, while walking three more.

Geenen, Krista Shafer, and Mary Friend each had two hits for Ripon, while Geenen and Tara Rabideaux each scored two runs. Jen Mueller paced the Red Hawks on the mound with her second win of the season. Mueller allowed just one hit in four innings, while striking out six batters.

The Red Hawks will be in action in Orlando again tomorrow, as they'll take on the University of Minnesota-Morris. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 6:00 p.m. EST.
