April 22, 2007

Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

KENOSHA, Wis. - Ripon took a break from conference play Sunday to take on Carthage College in a doubleheader. The Red Hawks lost both games, losing the first game 5-0 and the second by the score of 9-3.

The Red Hawks (11-11) were able to pound out six hits in the first game, but weren't able to get the clutch hit when they needed it. Carthage (18-14) on the other hand took full advantage of their base runners. They led off the second inning with a double, which was promptly followed by a home run by Jenny Burke, giving Carthage a 2-0 lead.

That would be all the runs they would need, but they added three more later in the game for good measure. They scored once on a double by Steph Noel in the fifth. Carthage then capped the scoring with two runs in the sixth, highlighted by Burke's second homer of the game.

Game two started out a little differently, with Ripon getting on the board first. Natalie Geenen led the game off with a walk, and would come around to score three batters later on a Jen Mueller single. That lead wouldn't last long, as Carthage evened the score with a run in the second on Burke's third homer of the day.

Carthage took the lead for good in the following inning on yet another Burke home run, this time driving in three runs. Ripon used two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to one on a Mueller double, but that's as close as the Red Hawks would get the rest of the day. Carthage put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Burke knocked in two more runs with a single and A.Stanicek homered to drive in two more.

Mueller led Ripon with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, including two RBI. Krista Shafer and Bethany Mehlberg were the only other Red Hawks with a hit in game two. Shafer, Natalie Geenen and Tara Rabideaux each scored one run in the game.

Ripon will now turn their focus to the conference season once more, as they'll host Lawrence University in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Tracy Field.
