Game 2 Box Score

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Ripon continued their quest for first in the MWC North Division Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against cellar-dwelling Carroll College. The Red Hawks fell behind early in game one, but came back to win, 4-3. Game two also featured a comeback, with the Pioneers playing the role of the victors, 13-9.

Carroll (6-21, 1-10) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. After a lead-off double and two consecutive fielder's choices, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead. They would add another run in the fourth inning, thanks to back-to-back singles.

Ripon (14-12, 7-4) would take the lead in the fifth, thanks to two key Carroll miscues. Joelle Shady led the inning off by reaching base on an error. After a sacrifice and a passed ball, she found herself on third base, and would score the Red Hawk's first run on another Pioneer error. Natalie Geenen would add another run to tie the game before Krista Shafer gave them their first lead with her first homerun of her college career.

The Red Hawks added a much needed insurance run in the sixth on a Shady single, scoring Jessica Goudreau. Carroll made things interesting in the bottom of the inning, as they would also add another run. That's all they would get however, giving Ripon the game one victory.

Game two looked like it would go Ripon's way as well. Geenen led off the bottom of the first with a double, and would score on a Pioneer error, giving the Red Hawks the early lead. Carroll then scored once in the second and twice in the third, before Ripon would tie things at three with two runs in the fourth.

Ripon soared ahead in the fifth inning, scoring six runs on seven hits. Sara Rabideaux led things off with a single and would later score on another base hit by her sister Tara to take a 4-3 lead. Shafer then doubled to left for an RBI and would score one batter later on a Jen Mueller single. Andrea Knorr would also drive in a run in the inning, while Sara Rabideaux capped off the power surge with an RBI double, scoring Knorr and giving the Red Hawks a six-run lead.

That lead would not be enough on this day. Carroll put two runs on the board in the fifth and added eight runs in the sixth. They recorded eight hits in that inning and were bailed out by a couple Ripon errors. The biggest blow of the inning came with Carroll trailing by one with one out. That's when the Pioneers took the lead on a bases loaded double, clearing the bases. They would add a couple more runs after that, giving them their first conference win of the season.

Ripon will try to put that second game behind them, as they'll host Beloit College on Sunday in their regular season finale. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Tracy Field.
