Lake Forest, Ill. - Ripon scored two runs in the bottom of the
sixth to tie it at three, including a homer by Rose Reichhart.
The senior then scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth
to give the Red Hawks the 4-3 win over Lawrence. With the victory,
Ripon moves on to day two of the MWC Tournament and will play either
Grinnell or Lake Forest at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Vikings got on the board first, scoring an unearned run in
the their first at-bat. In the third, Ripon tied it up when Sara
Rabideaux scored on a Krista Shafer single. In the top of the fourth,
Lawrence scored two to take the 3-1 advantage. It would stay that
way until the sixth when the Red Hawks knotted it up again. Reichhart
led of the inning with a home run into the left field bleachers.
Chrissy Schneider scored the tying run later in the inning on an
RBI single by Jen Mueller.
Both teams went down quietly in the seventh and Mueller struck
out the side in the eighth. Reichhart led off the home half of
the inning with a double to the gap in left center and moved to
third on a passed ball. The aggressive base running paid off as
Reichhart scored the winning run on a wild pitch two throws later.
In the first game of the day, Ripon lost to Grinnell 2-0. The
Pioneers scored a run in the first and another in the seventh to
take the game. The Red Hawks managed only four hits in the contest
and with the loss moved into the losers bracket of the MWC Tournament.
