Spring 2008 MWC Performers of the Week

April 7, 2008:  Week #3

Beaman paced the Ripon offense during a four-game sweep over Lawrence last week. The freshman third basemen hit a pair of home runs at home during Thursday’s 8-0 series-opening win and came back to hit another homer in the nightcap as Ripon rallied to an 8-3 win. Beaman’s bat remained hot as the series shifted to Lawrence on Saturday, as he hit his fourth home run of the series and finished with six runs scored and five RBI as the Red Hawks rolled to 19-1 and 17-8 victories. For the week, Beaman hit .571 (12-21), with 12 RBI, 10 runs scored, four home runs and two doubles.

Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton

Dwyer set the tone for Ripon’s four-game sweep of Lawrence last week, as the sophomore lefty earned his second win of the season in the series opener. Dwyer pitched a nine-inning complete game shutout of the Vikings, allowing four hits, while striking out five. The effort dropped Dwyer’s ERA to an MWC-best 0.83 among starting pitchers.

Beaman helped lead Ripon to a 6-0 record last week, including a four-game sweep over MWC North foe Carroll. The freshman continued to swing a hot bat at the plate, as he hit .565 (13-23) with 13 RBI, 18 runs scored and six walks. His 13 hits included three triples and three home runs, upping his league-leading conference home run total to seven. Beaman’s best performance of the week came during a 25-11 win over Carroll on Wednesday, when he went 5-for-6 with five runs scored and six RBI.

April 29, 2008:  Week #5

Mike Moldenhauer

Sophomore

Oshkosh, Wis./Liberty (Calif.)

Moldenhauer led Ripon to their best finish of the season at the St. Norbert Invitational on Sunday, as the Red Hawks tallied a team total of 320. The score tied first-place Lawrence, who was named champion based on the fifth scorer tiebreaker. The sophomore shot a team-best five-over par 75, which tied him for the third-best 18-hole round of the day.

April 15, 2008:  Week #9

Sweeney netted a pair of critical points for the Red Hawks in their 5-4 conference-opening victory at Carroll on Saturday. Against the Pioneers, the senior won his No. 2 singles match by defeating Michael Wajda 6-1, 6-1. He then teamed up with Dave Czarnecki to win number the No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-3. The win marked Ripon’s 16th consecutive conference victory.

 

Outdoor Track & Field

Marcell placed first in all four of the throwing events she competed in at the outdoor season opening Sherman-Lukoski Invitational on Saturday. The senior won the shot put (39’09.50”), discus (123’04.25”), hammer throw (132’11.25”) and javelin (107’07.75”) events to help the Red Hawk women to a third-place team finish.

Peotter started three games on Ripon’s trip to Florida last week, finishing the road trip with a 2-1 record. The right-handed freshman allowed two earned runs in 22.1 innings for a 0.63 ERA. She earned victories over Penn State-Behrend (5-2) and Westfield State (6-1), while striking out 18 total hitters in the three contests.

Geenen helped lead Ripon to a 7-2 record last week, batting .571 (16-28) with 10 RBI, nine runs scored, three home runs, three doubles, a triple and a stolen base. The junior shortstop’s four total RBI and three-run homer rallied the Red Hawks to a 12-10 win over Lake Forest at Monday’s abbreviated MWC Classic in Janesville, Wisconsin. Geenen, who leads the MWC with an .887 slugging percentage, closed the week with her fifth home run of the season during a 4-2 win over defending MWC champ St. Norbert that salvaged a doubleheader split for Ripon.

Peotter came up with a clutch performance in Ripon’s biggest game of the year on Saturday. The Red Hawks dropped game one of a doubleheader against Carroll 8-0, as the Lady Pioneer offense pounded out eight runs on 15 hits to setup a decisive second game that would give the winner the second and final MWC North berth to the 2008 MWC Tournament. The freshman righty stopped Carroll cold with a complete-game two hitter in which she walked three and struck out a single-game school record 14 hitters. Ripon’s 2-1 triumph pushed the team into the postseason and gave Peotter her first of two wins on the week, as she limited Lakeland to one earned run on three hits a day later.
