LaCrosse, Wis. - The Ripon men's tennis team didn't open the 2007 season the way they had hoped. The Red Hawks dropped a pair of matches Saturday, losing 9-0 to Winona State (MN) before falling to UW-LaCrosse by a score of 8-1.
In the second match of the day, UW-LaCrosse won every singles match, while taking two of the three doubles matches. The Red Hawks lone match win came via the number one doubles team.
Ripon's Dave Czarnecki and George Higgins defeated
Mike Mooren and Mike Van Lieshout by a score of 8-6.
Five of the six singles matches were decided in two sets. George Higgins put up the best fight for Ripon in singles play, taking Mooren the distance. Mooren came away victorious, 6-4, 4-6, (11-9).
The Red Hawks will try for a different result next Saturday, as they'll travel to Michigan Tech.
