Houghton, Mich. - After dropping two matches last weekend to open the season, the Red Hawks once again lost a pair of matches on Saturday. These two were much closer than the previous two losses. Ripon opened the day with a 5-4 loss to the host team, Michigan Tech, before suffering another loss, 6-3 at the hands of St. Scholastica (MN).

The Red Hawks split their singles competition with Michigan Tech, with each team winning three of the six singles matches. George Higgins, Andy Schaller, and Dan Weiler were all victorious for the Red Hawks. All three won their respective matches in the full three sets. Dave Czarnecki and Higgins got the doubles competition started off right, winning number one doubles by a score of 9-7. Michigan Tech took the final two matches though, en route to their first victory of the year.

In the second match of the day, Ripon's Weiler and Ben Metzler won their respective matches, while St. Scholastica won the other four. The doubles competition was highlighted by a Metzler/Schaller win for the Red Hawks. The duo teamed up to defeat St. Scholastica's Peter Sparby and Ryan Antony 8-4.

Ripon will look for their first win of the season next weekend, as they'll play another pair of matches. The Red Hawks will start by playing Elmhurst (IL) at 5:00 in Mequon, Wis., before finishing the day with a match against Concordia (WI) at 7:00 p.m.
