RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks played arguably their toughest opponent of the season Friday afternoon, losing to four-time defending Midwest Conference champion Grinnell College. Ripon gave a great effort, but it was not enough, as the Pioneers won 9-0.
Ripon (3-7) dropped all six singles matches on the day, but were competitive in many of them. Andy Schaller put up the biggest fight, losing to Juan Carlos Perez, 6-4, 6-2 in number two singles. Alex Momich also played a close match in number six singles, losing to Jordan Lee, 6-0, 7-5. Grinnell (11-5) coasted through doubles play, winning 8-2, 8-3, and 8-0 in number one, two, and three doubles, respectively.
Ripon will hope to rebound on Saturday, when they'll play a pair of matches in Whitewater, Wis. They'll open play against UW-Whitewater at 9:30 a.m., before facing the University of St. Francis (IL) at 12:30 p.m.
