Box Score vs. Macalester College

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Red Hawks traveled north on Sunday in hopes of picking up their first victory of the season at UW-Eau Claire. That victory will have to wait a little longer, as Ripon fell to both UW-Eau Claire and Macalester College, losing 9-0 and 7-2, respectively.

Against UW-Eau Claire (4-1), the Red Hawks were competitive in the first four singles matches, winning at least three games in each of those matches. That was not enough however, as Ben Sweeney came the closest to victory, losing 6-1, 6-3 in number four singles. In doubles play, Ripon's Andy Schaller and Dave Czarnecki would lose 8-3 in number one doubles, while Sweeney and Jay Hardacre fell 8-1 in number two play. Dan Weiler and Sam Ewig came the closest to victory in doubles play, losing 8-4.

The Red Hawks (0-3) fared a little better in their second match of the day, losing 7-2 to Macalester College (0-1). Ewig picked up Ripon's only victory in singles play, defeating Titus Levy 6-3, 6-7 (10-8). In doubles play, Czarnecki and Schaller teamed up for their second doubles victory of the season, winning 9-8. Ripon wasn't as successful in number two and three doubles, losing both matches by scores of 8-4.

Ripon will have a bye next weekend, before returning to action on February 23rd when they'll play two matches at Michigan Tech. Those matches will begin at 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
