The Red Hawks set out on a road trip to Iowa over the weekend and make their way home with a split of the two matches. Ripon was blanked 9-0 at Grinnell on Friday, before defeating Cornell College 8-1 on Saturday.
Friday's match was closer than the 9-0 score indicates. The Red Hawks put up a fight, going the full three sets in two of the six singles matches. Ben Metzler and Andy Schaller eventually lost those matches, with the other four singles matches going two sets. Dave Czarnecki and George Higgins fared the best in doubles play, losing to Grinnell's Nate Fox and DJ Warden 8-5 in number one doubles.
The next day, Ripon was able to get the bad taste out of their mouths, defeating Cornell 8-1 in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Higgins, Czarnecki, Metzler, Dan Weiler, and Dan Rodriguez all won their singles matches. Alex Tessman was the only Red Hawk that didn't come out on top, as he lost to Walden in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-10. Tessman later teamed up with Metzler to get a win in doubles play, along with the teams of Higgins/Czarnecki and Weiler/Rodriguez.
The Red Hawks will try to keep those wins coming, as they'll host Monmouth College on Friday. That match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
