MADISON, WIS. - The Red Hawks defeated Monmouth 4-3 in the conference
semi-final. In the match, the doubles point made the difference,
as Ripon took that, along with points at #1, 3, and 4 singles.
In the final against Grinnell, it took just four matches for the
Pioneers to take the 4-0 win and conference team championship.
In the win against Monmouth, the Red Hawks took the doubles point
with wins by Paul Vanden Boogard/Dave Czarnecki (8-4) at No. 1
and Ben Sweeney/Dan Weiler No. 3 (8-4). The teams other three points
came from victories by Vanden Boogard at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-4),
Ben Metzler at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4) and Sweeney at No. 4 (6-2, 6-4).
In the title match against Grinnell, the doubles point and No.
2, 3 and 4 singles were needed by the Pioneers to secure the 4-0
victory. The other matches went unfinished.
The Red Hawks will compete tomorrow in the singles championships
and Sunday for a doubles title.
