Ripon, Wis. - Paul VandenBoogaard won at No. 1 singles (3-6, 6-1, 10-6) and Alex Wente took a point at No. 6 (5-7, 6-4, 10-7), but it would not be enough as UW-La Crosse defeated Ripon 5-2 in the team's season-opener.

After dropping the doubles point, the Red Hawks would have needed to take four of the singles matches to rebound for the win, but were unable to do that. Dave Czarnecki lost at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3, Ben Metzler was defeated at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, and Ben Sweeney and Dan Weiler dropped their points at No. 5 and 6 (6-1, 6-2 & 6-1, 6-1), respectively.

The Red Hawks will host a doubles tournament at home on February 11 and will face off against Lake Forest on February 12.
