RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawk men's soccer team allowed four unanswered goals before halftime Tuesday afternoon, leading to a 5-2 loss to UW-Platteville at Prairie Field. Ripon was doubled up on shots in the game, 24-12, while also trailing 7-0 in corner kicks.
UW-Platteville scored early and never looked back, taking a 1-0 lead on a Tyler Holle goal from Chris Brown. Holle added his second goal of the game less than a minute later, this time on a pass from Ben Terpening. The Pioneers made it 3-0 in the 14th minute when Kyle Hoerter scored on an assist from B.J. Gottschlich. Mitch Cornelius added goal number four on the day in the 39th minute.
The Red Hawks started to gain momentum in the second half when they cut the lead to three on a penalty kick goal by Demba Camara. That momentum would come to a stop three minutes later, with Cornelius' second goal of the game. Addison Ransom added a second goal for the Red Hawks in the 70th minute, but it was too little, too late.
Ripon will now focus on getting off to a good start in the Midwest Conference, as they'll play their conference opener on Saturday. The Red Hawks will travel to Lake Forest to take on the Foresters at 3:30 p.m. That game will be preceded by the women's contest.
