RIPON, Wis. - Ripon lost their third consecutive game by a single goal Wednesday afternoon, falling to conference foe Lawrence University 2-1 in double overtime. It took a penalty kick in the 105th minute for the Vikings to win a game that was hard-fought throughout by both teams. Ripon outshot Lawrence 21-10 in the game, but couldn't convert on several opportunities late in the game.
Lawrence (2-6, 2-0 MWC) looked like they would run away with the game early, as they posted the first goal of the game in the 10th minute on a header from Stephen Exarhos, who took a pass from Nick Dufficy to convert the score. Ripon's Marco Rhein tied things up in the 39th minute, after a beautiful cross pass from Chris Quillman, tying the game at one heading into halftime.
The second half was scoreless, despite Ripon (2-7, 0-3 MWC) having several shots go off the crossbar or post. Neither team would score in the first or second overtime period, until a foul on Ripon set Lawrence up with a penalty kick with 4:45 left in the game. Tristan Lipe didn't waste the opportunity, finding the back of the net for a 2-1 Lawrence victory.
The Red Hawks will now try to regroup and get ready for a non-conference game on Sunday against St. Mary's University (MN). That game will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the women's contest.
