SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Red Hawk offense was clicking in the first half of Sunday's game at Lakeland College, scoring three goals in the opening period, including two in a six-minute span. They weren't as fortunate in the second half however, as they dropped their second consecutive game by a one-goal margin, losing to the Muskies 4-3.
Ripon (2-6) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring the first goal of the game just four minutes into the contest on a free kick by Zach Hershoff. Lakeland (2-4) would even things up in the 26th minute on a goal by Ryan Malo, and the Muskies found themselves in the lead five minutes later, when Ted Cormier found the net on a penalty kick. The see-saw battle would be tied once again in the 34th minute on a goal from Ripon's Marco Rhein. Six minutes later, Ripon took a 3-2 lead on a Justin Gawlik goal, just before halftime.
The Muskies tied things up yet again with an unassisted Kevin Fitchett goal in the 48th minute. Cormier then added his second goal of the game in the 51st minute to put Lakeland in the lead for good, as neither team managed to score during the final 39 minutes.
Ripon will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Wednesday, when bitter rival Lawrence University will pay the Red Hawks a visit. That game will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Prairie Field.
