Red Hawks Continue Winning Ways

September 11, 2007

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawk men's soccer team has refused to lose as of late. Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Lakeland marked their second win in a row and moved their undefeated streak to four consecutive games, which is the longest such streak in over six years.

The sparkplug in Tuesday's game was the leader of the Red Hawks, Kris Hanson. The junior broke a scoreless tie in the 13th minute off an assist from Kevin Cederholm. After that point, the two teams played evenly, with both sides having their opportunities. Ripon goalkeeper Matt Schultz, starting his first game of the season, turned away three Lakeland shots, to preserve the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Hanson struck again, this time receiving a pass from Cory Bougie and putting the ball in the back of the net, putting the Red Hawks up by two goals in the 61st minute. Lakeland put up a fight to the finish, as they scored their lone goal ten minutes later off the foot of Ryan Malo. That would be all the scoring they could muster, despite getting numerous looks at the goal. Schultz saved three more shots in the second half to hold onto the victory.

The Red Hawks will hope to continue their undefeated streak when they play Beloit College on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Prairie Field and will be preceded by the women's contest against the Buccaneers.
