Red Hawks Open Conference Play With Win

September 8, 2007

Box Score

RIPON, Wis. - The Red Hawks were able to get a jump start on every other team in the Midwest Conference on Saturday by defeating Lake Forest 2-1 in what was the first and only conference match on Saturday. The Red Hawks and Foresters were in a virtual lock for much of the game, but Ripon was able to get the bounces to go their way late in the game to secure the victory.

Lake Forest (2-1, 0-1) looked like they may run away with the game early on. The Foresters got on the board first in the 15th minute on a goal by Ben Levy. The Red Hawks (2-1-1, 1-0) answered 13 minutes later with a goal of their own, as Kevin Cederholm found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. The two teams played the rest of the half evenly and went into halftime tied at one.

The second half started like the first half ended, with both teams getting plenty of opportunities, but failing to convert. Lake Forest had several shots at a goal, but their shots were either just wide, or saved by Ripon's Bob Bradbury. Ripon also had a couple breakaway chances, but were turned away by Lake Forest Goal Keeper Sam Malmberg. The Red Hawks were finally able to break the tie in the 77th minute when Demba Camara booted the ball from 35 yards away, just over Malmberg's outstretched arms to give Ripon the victory.

Ripon will take a break from conference play this week, as they'll host Lakeland College on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Prairie Field.
