RIPON, Wis. - Ripon and UW-Whitewater each struggled to get things going offensively on Saturday. The Warhawks scored once in the first half, but that proved to be enough, as UW-W defeated the Red Hawks 1-0.
The two teams played evenly for the first 29 minutes of the game. Then, with 15 minutes to play in the first half, UW-Whitewater (8-1) scored the lone goal of the contest, as Abdoulaye Camara scored on a header off a pass from Luke Mangognia. That would be all Whitewater would need, thanks to their defense, whom kept Ripon (4-3-3) out of the net for the duration of the afternoon.
The Warhawks got 11 of their 16 shots off in the first half, while Ripon's lone shot came in the second period, off the foot of Kris Hanson. Bob Bradbury made seven saves for the Red Hawks, who lost their second consecutive game for the first time all season.
Ripon will continue non-conference play on Tuesday, as they'll travel to UW-Platteville for a game under the lights. Tuesday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Platteville, Wis.
