ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - It took 25 days and seven games for Ripon to lose their second game of the season, as they fell 4-0 at Augustana (IL) on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Hawks hadn't lost since their season opener, before going 4-0-3 in their next seven games. The Vikings got the best of the Red Hawks early in the game, scoring three first half goals, en route to the victory.
The scoring began early, with Augustana (4-3-2) getting on the board in the seventh minute on Scott Marlega's first goal of the season. The Vikings followed that up with another goal 11 minutes later, this time by Scott Wallner. Dan Hogan added a third goal in the 28th minute to give Augie plenty of breathing room as the two teams headed into halftime.
Augustana added the final goal of the game shortly after halftime, as John Linden got into the action off a pass from Marlega. Things got heated in the second half with six cards given out between the two teams. Ripon was frustrated into taking six shots, five of which were saved by the Augustana goalkeeper. Augie took 18 shots, with 15 being on target and 11 saves made by Ripon's Bob Bradbury.
The Red Hawks (4-2-3) will try to start a new streak on Saturday, when they'll get a visit from UW-Whitewater in what will be homecoming for Ripon College. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Prairie Field.
