RIPON, Wis. - It was hard to tell who the better team was for
much of the game Tuesday at Prairie Field in Ripon's game against
Augustana. Each team battled neck and neck for much of the game,
but in the end the Vikings proved to be too much, posting a 4-1
victory.
Augustana struck first on a Matt Meyer goal in the 26th minute.
That was quickly answered however when Price Ward took a Curt Schrank
pass and booted it past the Augie goalkeeper. The two teams played
even the rest of the half and went into halftime tied at one.
The second half began much like the first with each team displaying
great teamwork along with a lot of physicality. Augustana took
the lead for good in the 67th minute on a Nick Cosentino goal past
a diving Dave Freisleben, who made several eye-opening plays in
the net for the Red Hawks. Dan Hogan tacked on an insurance goal
for the Vikings in the 78th minute and Joe Caruso rounded out the
scoring as he put one in the net from deep with under one minute
to play.
The Red Hawks will now go on a four game road trip, in search
of their first 'W' of the year. They will next be in action Friday
at Macalaster College on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
