RIPON, Wis. - The Ripon Men's Soccer team started out on the wrong
foot Friday at Aurora University. The Spartans got on the board
early in the first half, scoring in the first minute on a Chase
Correlli goal. Eight minutes later, Correlli booted another goal
into the back of the net off a pass from Alex DeGurian. Aurora
wasn't done yet, as Brad Johns scored unassisted in the 18th minute,
before Alex DeGurian rounded out the first half scoring by getting
an unasssisted goal of his own.
Aurora was able to tack on an insurance goal at the beginning
of the first half on a Rob Michaels goal in the 46th minute. From
there, the Spartans controlled the tempo for the most part, before
Ripon got their first goal of the season as Price Ward knocked
in a Kris Hanson pass to put the Red Hawks on the board. It was
too little too late however, as Aurora went on to win 5-1.
Aurora was the aggressor for much of the contest, getting off
42 shots, while Ripon managed just four. Dave Freisleben recorded
12 saves for the Red Hawks out of the 17 shots on goal by the Spartans.
Ripon will look for their first win of the year Tuesday, when
they'll take on Augustana College at 4:00 p.m. in their home opener.
