RIPON, Wis. - Ripon College played St. Norbert even for the first
28 minutes of their game Wednesday afternoon. After all was said
and done though, St. Norbert showed why they've won three consecutive
Midwest Conference titles, defeating the Red Hawks 5-0.
The two teams played toe-to-toe in the first half, with the exception
of a couple minutes, where St. Norbert was able to knock in back-to-back
goals. The first one came way of Nick Hren, on an assist from Ryan
Doucette in the 28th minute. Just a minute and a half later, the
Green Knights scored again, as Nick Bonifas scored his first of
three goals on the day.
The second half was all St. Norbert, as they added three more
goals. In addition to Bonifas' two goals, Greg Schmidt also added
one for good measure in the 86th minute. St. Norbert outshot the
Red Hawks 23 to 10 on the day. Ripon recorded two saves, while
the Green Knights saved eight kicks.
Ripon's next game will be Saturday on Homecoming, as they'll host
Grinnell College. Gametime is scheduled for approximately 1:30,
and will be preceded by the women's contest against the Pioneers.
