The Red Hawks traveled to a pair of conference meets over the weekend, showing much improvement along the way. Saturday, Ripon finished 14th out of 17 schools at the Lawrence Invite. That was followed with a performance at St. Norbert's meet Sunday in which the Red Hawks cut nine strokes off their team score, finishing fifth out of eight teams. Carthage College won both tournaments by a combined 26 strokes.
At Lawrence, Ripon posted a team score of 363, which was five strokes off the next highest team's pace. That was also three strokes ahead of 15th place Concordia (WI). Raj Pelon led Ripon with an 82, including a 40 on the back nine. Billy Kollatz finished with a 92, while Ben Lukoski and Bob Faulds shot a 94 and 95, respectively. Bill Olm rounded out the team score by shooting an even 100.
Three of the five golfers improved their scores the next day at St. Norbert. Ripon finished with a team score of 352 at the tournament, which was one stroke ahead of Beloit, and 16 behind Lawrence. Kollatz had an amazing back nine, shooting a 39, while finishing with a team-best 84, which was 17th best in the tournament. Lukoski wasn't far behind, shooting an 85. Pelon was just a stroke off that pace, as he shot an 86. Faulds and Olm each finished the day with a 97.
Ripon will now get ready to compete at the Midwest Conference Championships, which will be held at Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford, Ill. The three-day tournament will begin May 3 and run until the 5th.
