RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's basketball season has been over for nearly one month, but the postseason awards are still rolling in. Freshman guard Scott Gillespie was named third team All-Region by D3hoops.com, which comes just a few weeks after earning second team All-Conference honors.
Gillespie led the Red Hawks in both scoring and assists this season, averaging 21.2 points and 5.1 assists per game. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds per game, which ranked third on the team, while shooting 81 percent from the free throw line and 34 percent from 3-point range. He started all 23 games for the Red Hawks, while playing an average of 32.2 minutes per game, which also led the team.
Gillespie was one of just two freshmen named to any of the three All-Region teams. Every other player was either a junior or senior. He was joined on the third team by Carroll guard Wes Ladwig, Fontebonne's Brian Fogerty, Marian's Jordan Van Ess, and Defiance's Anthony Pettaway. The Midwest Conference was also represented by three other players. Reigning MWC Player of the Year Ryan Kroeger earned first team All-Region honors, while Grinnell's John Grotberg and Beloit's Andy Horton were named to the second team.
