January 20, 2007
Box Score

RIPON, Wis. – One day after scoring 118 points in a loss to Grinnell, Ripon and Lake Forest combined to score less than that. In what was a slow down, halfcourt game the entire afternoon, Lake Forest dictated the tempo, as the Foresters defeated Ripon 62-49. Ripon was done in by their second half performance. After leading by seven points at halftime, the Red Hawks shot just 22 percent from the field in the second half, scoring 16 points in the period.

The game was tightly contested for the most part in the first half, with seven ties and five lead changes. Lake Forest's largest first half lead was five points, but Ripon seemed like they were pulling away late in the half. The Red Hawks ended the half on a 13-4 run, giving them a 33-26 lead at the half.

Everything looked fine for Ripon (7-7, 5-3) early in the second half, as they went up by six on a three-pointer by Chris Kellett with just under eleven minutes left in the game. That's where things started to get rough. Ripon wouldn't score another point for the next six and a half minutes, allowing Lake Forest (8-7, 4-4) to score 16 unanswered points to go up by 10 with just over four minutes remaining. The Foresters ended the game on a 26-7 run, moving them to within a game of the Red Hawks in the conference standings.

Ripon had just one player score in double figures, as Paul Wise finished with 12, all of them coming in the first half. Wise also finished with six rebounds and two assists. Vehantre Brown ended up with eight points and six rebounds, while Brian Schmitting and Bo Johnson each scored seven. Schmitting also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Jeremy Beyersdorf led all scorers for Lake Forest with 18 points as he hit on all seven of his field goal attempts, including two three-pointers, while alson connecting on both of his free throw opportunities. Laird Walker finished with 16 points for the Foresters, to go along with eight rebounds. Lake Forest outrebounded the Red Hawks 45-35.

Ripon will try to put this game behind them when they'll host conference leader Carroll College at Storzer Center on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the women's game against the Pioneers.
