Two Red Hawks Named to MWC All-Conference Team

RIPON, Wis. - The Midwest Conference released its men's basketball All-Conference team Wednesday, with two Red Hawks being honored for their play during the 2006-07 season. Brian Schmitting was selected to the first team, while fellow senior David McMullen was named honorable mention.

Schmitting, who led the team in scoring (17.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg) was a dominant force down the stretch for the Red Hawks. The Hilbert, Wis. native averaged 22.1 points and 11.7 rebounds throughout the final nine games of the season, capped by his career-high 32 points and 13 rebounds in Ripon's 92-79 loss to Carroll College in the MWC semi-finals. Schmitting recorded a conference-high 10 double-doubles this season. In addition to points and rebounds, Schmitting also led the team in field goal percentage, shooting 65 percent (172-266) from the floor. He left his mark on the Red Hawk program, ranking 26th all-time in scoring (1,003 points) and fourth in rebounding (535), while leaving the school as the all-time leader in field goal percentage (69%). This is Schmitting's second All-Conference selection of his career, after being named to the second team last season.

McMullen earned his first All-Conference selection of his career. The Houston, Texas native led the team in steals (2.7 spg) and assists (5.5 apg), while also ranking third in scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game. McMullen also grabbed 3.9 rebounds per game for the Red Hawks, who finished the season 13-10. The senior guard also left his mark on the program, finishing his career with a school record 211 steals, while also ending with the second most assists in Red Hawk history (468).

Grinnell College led the way with two first-teamers, while Carroll produced a first and second-teamer. Lake Forest had two players named to the second-team. Carroll's Nate Drury was selected as the MWC Player of the Year, while Lake Forest's Chris Conger earned the MWC Coach of the Year Award for the third time in his career.
