LOVES PARK, Ill. - After a one week layoff, the Ripon cross country teams were back in action on Saturday at the Midwest Conference Championships, and they didn't disappoint. The Red Hawk men finished second out of the 10 conference team, which marks the best finish in the program's history. The women also fared well, taking sixth place at the meet.

The Ripon men scored 75 team points, trailing only Grinnell's 22. The Red Hawks were led by four runners (Jason Smith, Ben Worcester, Lucas Felten and AJ Thew), who earned First Team All-Conference honors. Smith led the way with a fourth place finish, running an 8K time of 27:28. Worcester wasn't far behind, with a seventh place finish of 27:48. Felten finished in 13th place, just 20 seconds behind Worcester, while Thew ran a time of 28:16, which was good enough for 15th place. Also scoring points for the Red Hawks were Michael Dussault, Cory Zimmerman and Cody Jolin, who finished in 36th, 37th and 53rd place, respectively.

Ripon's women scored 140 team points on the day. They had a pair of First Team All-Conference runners, as Jessica Davey and Michelle Matter crossed the finish line at nearly the same time. Davey was ninth overall in the race with a 6K time of 25:01, while Matter was one place behind her with a time of 25:05. Nikki Weichbrod also had a strong showing, in 29th place, with a time of 26:37. Laura Reuling ran the race in 27:07, which was the 42nd-best time, while Katie Williams, Brooke Zank and Rebecca Ostrowski earned points by finishing in 50th, 54th and 55th place, respectively.
