OSHKOSH, Wis. - Saturday's NCAA Regional Cross Country meet featured some of the best teams in the Midwest, with Ripon holding their own for much of the day. The Red Hawk men finished 19th out of 44 teams, while the Ripon women were 22nd out of 45 squads. Highlighting their performance was the eight personal records for the Red Hawks. Three of Ripon's seven men's runners achieved career-best times, while five of their seven women's runners netted personal bests.

Leading the way for the men was Jason Smith, who finished with a career-best 8K time of 25:51, which was good enough for 53rd place individually. Ben Worcester was Ripon's second-best runner with a time of 26:26, while AJ Thew and Cory Zimmerman each achieved personal bests. Thew was the 101st runner to cross the finish line, with a time of 26:37, while Zimmerman ran a time of 27:42, which was 162nd. Michael Dussault was just five seconds off Zimmerman's pace, while Cody Jolin and Derek Wallace ran times of 29:38 and 31:54.

Ripon's team garnered 575 team points, which was six behind UW-Superior's 18th place team. North Central (Ill.) won the event with 21 team points.

The Red Hawk women were led by freshman Michelle Matter's personal best time of 23:09 on the 6K course, as she finished in 52nd place overall. That is 48 seconds faster than her previous best and is the third-fastest 6K time in school history. Senior Jessica Davey finished her Ripon running career with a career-best time of 23:16, which was five spots behind Matter. Nikki Weichbrod was third on the team with a time of 25:46, while Katie Williams was right behind her with a personal-best of 25:50. Laura Reuling finished with a time of 26:22, while Brooke Zank and Rebecca Ostrowski each broke their personal records with identical times of 26:30.

The Ripon women tallied 640 team points, which was better than four other Midwest Conference teams. They finished 64 points shy of 21st place. UW-Eau Claire won the women's event with 52 total team points.
