MEQUON, Wis. - For the fourth time in the past seven years, including the last two seasons, the Red Hawk men's cross country team is the champion of the Wisconsin Private College Championships. They won Saturday's race at Concordia (WI) University with a team score of 59, which was five points better than Beloit College. The Red Hawk women nearly duplicated that feat, with their second-best finish in school history, taking home second place, with a team score of 68, which was just a single point behind Beloit.

The men's team had three runners finish in the top 10, led by Jason Smith's time of 26:12, which was the second-best time of the day. Ben Worcester and Michael Dussault finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, with times of 27:10 and 27:19. A.J. Thew and Lucas Felten also finished in the top 25, with Thew's time of 28:16 good enough for 20th and Felten's time of 28:26 giving him 22nd place overall.

Ripon's women's team narrowly missed winning their second Private College Championship and first since 2006. Jessica Davey paced the Red Hawks with a first-place finish. Her 5K time of 19:18 was nearly one minute better than Ripon's Brittany Dick, who finished in fifth place. Erin Beggs also cracked the top 10 with a ninth-place finish thanks to her time of 20:38. Nikki Weichbrod and Lara Reuling were also in the top 30, placing 23rd and 30th, respectively, with times of 21:39 and 21:52.

The Red Hawks are off next week, but will try to keep their momentum going the following week, as they'll run at the Midwest Conference Championships, hosted by Knox College. That meet will begin at 11 a.m. in Galesburg, Ill.
