Red Hawks Finish In Top Half At MWC Championships

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Ripon men and women's cross country teams both had similar results at Saturday's Midwest Conference Championships, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, out of the 10 conference teams. The men finished with 109 points, which was 18 points out of third place, while the women's team recorded 124 points, 49 away from fourth place.

The Red Hawk men, who finished fourth for the second consecutive year, were led by Jason Smith's seventh place finish with a time of 26:29.27. Michael Dussault was second on the team with a time of 27:12.32, which was good enough for 18th place. Ben Worcester wasn't far behind him, in 20th, with a time of 27:15.44. Lucas Felten and A.J. Thew rounded out the Red Hawk's team score with 36th and 40th-place finishes, respectively. Grinnell won the event with a team score of 15.

Ripon's women improved on last year's seventh place finish at the MWC Championships. Saturday, they were led by Brittany Dick and Jessica Davey, who each earned All-Conference for the third time. Dick was sixth, with a time of 23:51.87, while Davey finished seventh with a time of 23:55.97. Senior Erin Beggs was the next best Red Hawk runner, with a 27th-best time of 25:13.60, while Nikki Weichbrod's time of 26:01.82 was good enough for 42nd. Laura Reuling rounded out Ripon's team score with a time of 26:39.93. The women's race was won by Monmouth College, who scored 55 points in the meet.
