ST. PAUL, Minn. - Ripon rose to the occasion on Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational, which is the largest cross country meet in the country. Nearly 400 teams from all three collegiate divisions and high school competed in the event, which had approximately 4,000 runners take part in the race. Ripon's men finished an impressive 13th out of 40 teams, while the Red Hawk women took 33rd place out of 42 schools.

The men were led by Jim Hein, who finished 36th out of the 355 runners in Division III, with an 8K time of 26:58. Harrison Smith wasn't far off the pace, finishing 66th in the race with a time of 27:29. Bryan Schneider was third on Ripon's team, running a time of 28:01 for a 94th place finish. Jason Smith also finished in the top 150 runners with a time of 28:43. The Red Hawks scored 415 points as a team, which was ten behind 12th place UW-Eau Claire.

UW-LaCrosse won the men's race with 53 team points.

The women's team was anchored by Jessica Davey's time of 25:25, which was good enough for 143rd place overall, out of the 563 runners that finished the race. She was followed by Rebecca Duley, who was 198th with a time of 25:55. Erin Bavery, Erin Beggs, and Laura Rueling also finished in the top 400 runners. The Red Hawks scored 984 points as a team. Washington University (MO) won the race with 89 points.

The Red Hawks will come home next weekend, as they'll host their only home meet of the season in the Red Hawk Invitational. That race will begin at 11:00 p.m. in Ripon.
