MEQUON, Wis. - For the third time in Ripon's three cross country meets this season, the Red Hawk men finished first, winning the Concordia (WI) Invitational on Saturday. The women's team also saw some success, as they ended fourth out of nine teams.
The men's team combined to score 23 points, which was 24 better than second place UW-Oshkosh. Jim Hein led the Red Hawks with a second place finish out of 85 runners who completed the race. Hein's 8K time of 26:10 was just ahead of fellow Red Hawk Harrison Smith, who came in fourth place with a time of 26:29. Bryan Schneider also had a good showing, running a time of 27:00, which was good enough for seventh place. Jason Smith was the fourth Red Hawk to finish in the top 10 individually, as he ended tenth with a time of 28:01.
The Red Hawk women scored 92 points as a team, which was just 12 points behind third-place and host school Concordia University (WI). Jessica Davey paced Ripon with a 6K time of 24:38, which was good enough for tenth place in the individual competition. Rebecca Duley finished in 18th with a time of 25:33, while Erin Beggs was 29th, running a time of 26:12. Ripon's Laura Rueling and Erin Bavery also finished in the top 40 runners.
The Red Hawks will travel to St. Paul, Minn. next weekend for the Roy Griak Invitational. That race is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m.
