It turned out to be a pretty eventful first meet of the season
for Ripon College for both the men and the women. The women turned
in a second place performance out of 10 other collegiate teams,
finishing with a score of 94, just eight points back of the winner,
St. Scholastica. The Red Hawk women managed to score better than
four other Midwest Conference schools, all of whom finished third
through sixth. The host team St. Norbert was followed by Carroll,
Lake Forest, and Lawrence.
Brittany Dick led all Red Hawk runners with a 5K time of 19:23,
which was good enough for second place among all 116 runners. Jessica
Davey wasn't far behind, finishing 13th with a time of 20:56. Rebecca
Duley and Sarah Leeman finished back-to-back at 24th and 25th,
as each ran identical times of 21:34. Whitney Levash, Erin Beggs,
and Angie Hein also finished in the top 50 for individual times.
The men's team did their best to outdo the women, finishing second
out of nine teams, with a score of 59, which was 24 behind the
winner, St. Norbert. Of the 93 runners that finished the race for
the men, two Red Hawks placed in the top 10. Bryan Schneider led
the way with a second place finish with a 4-mile time of 21:03,
while Jim Hein finished seventh with a time of 21:40. Harrison
Smith and Aaron Kammer were also in the top 20, running times of
21:59 and 22:22, respectively.
Next up for the Red Hawks will be a meet next weekend at Carroll
College. That Invitational will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
September 9th.
