Dear student,
At Ripon College, the registrar is responsible for evaluating coursework
at other institutions to determine how the courses can count toward
completion of our degree requirements. Often, prospective transfer
students need to know how courses will transfer to Ripon and how
long it will take to earn a degree prior to making a decision about
attending Ripon College. The admission counselor with whom you are
working will contact me; I will then review your records and can
answer specific questions. Some students plan to be enrolled elsewhere
for another semester before transferring to Ripon. I am happy to
help students make their course selections so that they are sure
the courses will transfer to Ripon.
Because you have benefited from the experience of attending college,
transfer students tend to understand the significance of degree
requirements in a way new first-year students do not. The requirements
for a degree at Ripon College are:
- Completion of 124 semester credits
- A cumulative grade point average
of at least 2.00
- Completion of a major
(the grade point average
for the courses presented for the major must be at least 2.00)
- Completion of the distribution requirements
Transfer students
must complete a minimum of 32 semester credits at Ripon, including
at least one-half the credit hours required for any major or minor
and, except for under circumstances described in the Ripon
College catalog, the senior year must be spent in residence. As a rule
of thumb, all college-level coursework will be accepted as transfer
credits provided the courses were completed at an accredited college
and a grade of C- or higher was earned. Transfer grades are not
included in computing a student's average at Ripon. The Ripon College
catalog contains all of the policies regarding the degree requirements.
Upon request, we will review your college transcript and inform
you how your credits will transfer to Ripon or give you advice
on which courses to take if you are planning to transfer.
I look forward to working with you. My experience has been that
transfer students not only are warmly welcomed to our campus, but
that they have been very pleased with their decisions to join our
community.
