{ Winter Orientation: What to Bring }

The Office of Residence Life has prepared this list to help you plan for your academic career at Ripon College. Many of these items would be helpful to have on campus, but you may determine that everything is not necessary. We recommend you discuss with your roommate what can be shared.

Academic Supplies

  • Pens, pencils and highlighters
  • Stapler, paper clips, scissors and tape
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Three-hole punch
  • Notebooks or notebook paper
  • Binders or folders
  • Dictionary
  • Thesaurus
  • Calculator
  • Backpack or book bag
  • Computer disks
  • Art supplies
  • Musical instrument
  • Note cards
  • Post-It pads

You will receive an academic year planner during fall orientaiton, compliments of SMAC.

Other Supplies

  • Small refigerator (no larger thatn 4.0 cubic feet)
  • Television/VCR/DVD player
  • Radio, stereo & CDs
  • Microwave
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Camera
  • Loft if desired (lofts may be rented from the college at http://www.campusloftsinc.com/, school code RIPC)

Things to Leave at Home

  • Halogen lamps, candles/incense and fireworks
  • Items with an open heating element such as hotplates, toasters, toaster ovens and pizza ovens
  • Cats, dogs and caged animals (only aquarium fish are allowed)
  • Air conditioners

These items are not allowed in the residence halls.

  • Alarm clock (with a battery backup)
  • Laundry supplies & basket

  • Bucket or basket for shower supplies

  • Power strip with surge protector
  • Fan
  • Envelopes & stamps
  • 3M Command strip hooks to hang items on the wall
  • 3M Command strips for hanging posters
  • Umbrella
  • Dishes, glasses & silverware
  • Recreation and athletic equipment
  • Key chain or lanyard
  • Stackable crates
  • Dry erase board

* Before purchasing bedding, please note the following:

  • 84" long mattresses are located in Brockway Hall, Bovay Hall, Mapes Hall, Johnson Hall, East Scott Hall, and double rooms in Middle Scott Hall
  • 80" long mattresses are located in Anderson Hall, West Scott Hall and suites in Middle Scott Hall
  • 74" long mattresses are located in Tri-Dorms
