Day 1

Noon to 1 p.m. Check in
Location: Rotunda, Harwood Memorial Union
1:00 to 1:50 p.m. Welcome, Charge to the Class of 2012 & Academic Overview
Location: Great Hall, Harwood Memorial Union
Welcome to Ripon College! Chris Ogle, vice president and dean of students, will give an overview of orientation. Greetings will be extended to you by David Joyce, president. Steve Schuetz, vice president for Admission and Financial Aid, will provide an overview of the class of 2012. Michele Wittler, associate dean of faculty and registrar will provide an introduction to academic advising, registration and off-campus study programs -- important components of your Ripon College liberal arts education. Deano Pape will present information on the First-Year Studies seminars.  Melissa Bemus, director of Student Activities & Orientation, Brian Arquette and Stephanie Troemel, Orientation Committee Co-Chairs, will introduce you to the Orientation Committee.
2 to 2:30 p.m. STUDENTS: Orientation Committee Meeting
Location: Harwood Memorial Union
Learn more about the members of the Orientation Committee and their role in helping you settle in at Ripon College. The OCs will lead you in activities designed to help you get to know them as well as each other.
2 to 2:30 p.m. GUESTS: Small Group Meeting with your Advisor
Location: Assigned rooms

2:40 to 3:20 p.m. STUDENTS & GUESTS: Student Life Resources
Location: Bear Auditorium, Farr Hall of Science
Learn valuable tips about resources, programs, offices and people who can help make your college career a success! Presented by Tom Vaubel, associate dean of students and director of Career Development; Melissa Bemus, director of Student Activities and Orientation; Jessica Spanbauer, associate director of Student Support Services; Jessica Joanis, assistant director of Residence Life; and Kathy Welch-Krause, college nurse.
3:30 to 4:10 p.m. STUDENTS: Small Group Meeting with your Advisor
Location: Assigned rooms
Please refer to the notice in your Summer Orientation folder for the name of your adviser and the meeting location.
3:30 to 4:10 p.m. GUESTS: Challenging Your Student to Succeed
Location: Room 104, Todd Wehr Hall
Receive tips and information about the ways to continue supporting your student as they begin their time on campus. Information also will be provided about policies and procedures concerning parental involvement and notification. Presented by Chris Ogle, vice president and dean of students; Cindy Viertel, college counselor; and Josh DeWar, director of Residence Life.
4:20 to 4:50 p.m. STUDENTS & GUESTS: Adapting to a New College Environment
Location: Bear Auditorium, Farr Hall of Science
How is college different from high school? Learn about college expectations and support structures to enhance personal responsibility, community development, academic success, and emotional health and well-being. Presented by Dan Krhin, Jessica Spanbauer, and Mary Snyder; director, associate director and assistant director, respectively, of Student Support Services.
4:50 to 5:30 p.m. STUDENTS: College Student Inventory
Location: Bear Auditorium, Farr Hall of Science
Your success in college is very important to the faculty and staff at Ripon. The CSI provides valuable information to help you explore your skills and assess your abilities. CSI results will be individually shared with you during the fall semester. Please bring a pencil to this session.

  • Guided Walk Through the Ceresco Prairie Conservancy
    Location: Meet in Lobby of Rodman Center
    Learn more about Ripon's prairie restoration project during this walk led by Skip Wittler, professor of biology and director of the Ceresco Prairie Conservancy. Appropriate shoes are recommended.
  • Ripon & Green Lake Tour
    Location: Meet in Lobby of Pickard Commons
    Enjoy this casual tour of the area led by a member of the Ripon College community.
  • Sending Your Child to College
    Community Room, Campus Apartments
    It's okay to cry, laugh, or jump for joy as you prepare to send your child off to college.  But, please remember, you have needs to!  Join new, current, and "seasoned" Ripon parents in a relaxed and informal setting where you can ask questions or simply listen and learn from others. 
8 to 9 p.m. STUDENTS & GUESTS: ComedySportz
Location: Great Hall, Harwood Memorial Union
Relax, laugh and possibly be a star with this fast-paced, improvisational comedy team. Audience participation is a guarantee with ComedySportz, a favorite student program at Ripon College!
Following ComedySportz Enjoy the evening by visiting with other students and guests
Location: Assigned residence hall

STUDENTS: Talk to the orientation committee to find out what's happening in your residence hall!

GUESTS: Please note that outside entrances to the residence halls will be locked at midnight, and you do not have a key to open the exterior doors. It is advisable to be in your hall before midnight.

10:40 to 11:30 a.m.

STUDENTS & GUESTS: Auxiliary Services, Financial Aid, Student Employment & Student Accounts

An overview of long distance services, cable television, parking and voicemail as wellas financial aid, working on campus, Ripon's Business Office and payment plans.

An overview of bookstore, dining and information technology services.

Visit the resource area featuring a variety of campus offices and services, local banks, Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce, and more.  Don't forget to show your smile when you have your student ID picture taken!
