| Student Scholars in Ethical Leadership
The Ethical Leadership Program at Ripon College is pleased to announce
the availability of support for students who undertake scholarly
projects related to ethical leadership. This program is funded in
part by a grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation. The projects
may grow out of a course interest or assignment but should extend
well beyond the requirements for which academic credit is given.
A faculty mentor should approve the project and serve as guide and
evaluator of the work.
No more than five Student Scholars will be designated each academic
year. Their work will be supported by up to $500 for travel, supplies
or materials needed for the project. In addition, up to $500 will
be available to support travel by the student and the faculty mentor
for the purpose of presenting the results of the project to an appropriate
regional or national audience. While the project should be primarily
the independent work of the Student Scholar, a faculty mentor should
provide both guidance and evaluation of the work as it progresses.
The faculty mentor will receive a stipend of $250.
Any student interested in developing such a project should write
up a description, no more than two pages, including the materials
needed and a timeline for completion. The faculty mentor's signature
of approval should be included indicating confidence in the student's
ability to complete the project and acknowledgement of the project's
value. These proposals may be submitted to the Executive Director
of the Ethical Leadership Program at any time. Worthy projects will
be approved up to the limit for the year. Unsuccessful applicants
will be encouraged to submit again the next year or to submit a revised
proposal with suggested changes.

Summer Internships in Ethical Leadership
The Ripon College Ethical Leadership Program is pleased to announce
an opportunity allowing interested students the chance to work on
an appropriate project during the summer. ELP will offer up to five
summer internships to students who have a project meeting the criteria
and having a faculty sponsor. The project should engage the student
in activity that fulfills the goals of the Ethical Leadership Program.
That is, the project should engage the student in an essentially
independent activity, either scholarly or experiential, that raises
questions of ethics, explores solutions to ethical issues and takes
action on an ethical problem. That action can be involvement in a
project, development of a position on an issue or resolution of
an ethical dilemma. What is sought is not just exploring an issue
but reaching a conclusion about it. Our hope is to receive creative
projects that show an ethical awareness on the part of the student
requesting the internship. We certainly wish to use this internship
opportunity as a way for students to explore their interests, develop
their ethical insights and put to use their skills in solving ethical
problems. The central question to address in the application is:
how will the world be a better place by your work in this internship?
Internships will be limited to 100 hours during the summer. The
100 hours is a maximum; projects of shorter duration will be equally
considered. The pay will be minimum wage. Up to $200 will be available
for materials and transportation if they are essential to the project.
Faculty sponsors will receive a $100 stipend for general supervision
and monitoring the project (including submitting the time cards).
Applications should be limited to one page, describing the project
and explaining how it meets the goals of ELP. The application must
be signed by the faculty sponsor indicating approval of the project
and the willingness to supervise it.
APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BY APRIL 21, 2007 TO:
