Spring 2010 Semester

1/15/10: RA training.  The ELP is introduced to the RAs to make them aware of the events and partnership opportunities through the ELP. (30 participants)

1/18/10: Registration. ELP hosts a display and informational station at registration for new and returning students.

1/31/10: ELP Retreat.  ELP students spend time on team-building exercises and revisiting the ethical decision making curriculum.  They learn how to communicate their ethical decisions and help others make good decisions.  The students examine case studies and apply the knowledge they learned throughout the fall 2009 semester. (All ELP students)

2/2/10: Economics Lecture.  The Economics department invites the ELP students to participate in a special economics speaker series.

2/8/10: Multi-Institutional Survey on Leadership begins.  Ripon College surveys a majority of the student population on leadership opportunities, practices and experience.  Specific groups are used a comparison results (ELP, etc.).  Results will become available in June 2010.

2/9/10: Golden Hour: Ethics & Oratory.  Kathryn Olson speaks as part of the Ethics & Oratory series sponsored by the ELP.  Article about this speech appears in ELP newsletter. (50 participants)

2/25/10: TV Event. ELP students screen a modern television show and host a discussion about the ethical issues within the show’s premise. (10 participants)

3/1/10-5/5/10: Radio Shows.  ELP students begin their own radio shows to debate ethical case studies and bring ethical issues on and off campus to light. (8 shows)

3/2/10: Think College Early.  ELP students return to Ripon Middle School to work with middle school students to help them start thinking about college.  They sit on a panel, work with students one-on-one and answer questions. (10 participants)

3/4/10: TV Event. ELP students screen a modern television show and host a discussion about the ethical issues within the show’s premise. (10 participants)

3/4/10: Brown Bag Lunch. Faculty members present their summer 2009 grant reports and take questions about their research. (35 participants)

3/5/10: Leadership Ripon.  The director presents the ELP ethical decision making curriculum to community members and facilitates a discussion on why ethics and ethical decision making are an important part of the Ripon College experience. (15 participants)

3/9/10: Think College Early.  ELP students return to Ripon Middle School to work with middle school students to help them start thinking about college.  They sit on a panel, work with students one-on-one and answer questions. (10 participants)

3/11/10: TV Event. ELP students screen a modern television show and host a discussion about the ethical issues within the show’s premise. (10 participants)

3/19-3/22: Fisk Conference.  Students in Professor Katz’s class travel to Fisk University as part of the ongoing partnership. (Professor Katz submits her own review of the Fisk program)

3/25/10: TV Event. ELP students screen a modern television show and host a discussion about the ethical issues within the show’s premise. (10 participants)

3/26/10: Accepted Student Days.  The ELP director and students meet with parents and prospective students individually and in groups to discuss the ELP and its role in the college experience. (12 participants on average)

3/29/10-4/1/10: ELP Recruitment. ELP students offer an array of events during this week to let others know about the ELP.  ELP students complete presentations in 100 level classes.

3/29/10: Social Responsibility in Business Conference.  The ELP in partnership with SIFE and the Economics department present Sara Olsen.  She spends the day presenting on her Social Return on Investment Model.  She attends a community breakfast, five classes, and a meeting with the President’s Sustainability Committee.  (+100 participants in all)

4/1/10: TV Event. ELP students screen a modern television show and host a discussion about the ethical issues within the show’s premise. (10 participants)

4/1/10: ELP Recruitment Dinner.  The ELP students host a dinner for prospective ELP students to explain the program and their experiences. (5 participants)

4/2/10: ELP Applications Due.  The ELP accepts ten new students into the program.

4/6/10: ELP Golden Hour w/ Special Guest Charles Monroe Kane.  Charles spoke about the ethical decisions he faces as a producer of public radio and television.  He shared his insights on how ethics play a part in everything he does as a professional. (45 participants)

4/9/10: Accepted Student Days.  The ELP director and students meet with parents and prospective students individually and in groups to discuss the ELP and its role in the college experience. (12 participants on average)

4/16/10: Accepted Student Days.  The ELP director and students meet with parents and prospective students individually and in groups to discuss the ELP and its role in the college experience. (12 participants on average)

4/16/10: Shack-a-Thon.  ELP students presented ethical issues related to national policies regarding homelessness and poverty.  (25 participants)

4/17/10: The COVE.  ELP and EGOR co-sponsored this movie about dolphin fishing and the environmental impact of over-using natural resources. (15 participants)

4/20/10: Special Guest Hector Aristizabal.  Hector discussed his experience being tortured in Columbia under the U.S.-backed Columbian government.  Hector presented his theater activism presentation to three classes, the Crossroads Charter School and a evening community/campus event. (+100 participants)

5/3/10: ELP End-of-Year Celebration Dinner.  The ELP students received their certifications and received awards for participation. (All ELP students)

5/16/10: Commencement.  Three students received their ELP certification.
