If cheating is defined by the rules of the game and not by public morality, is cheating permissible as long as it isn’t detected? Are there times when it is OK to cheat when suffering the penalty has lower costs than playing by the rules? Is there a moral difference between the use of performance-enhancing drugs and high-tech training techniques? Are the economics of professional sports designed to enhance or to limit competition? Is there an ethical problem with college teams scheduling guaranteed losers to enhance their winning records and post-season chances? What role does the increasing emphasis on record-setting play in the way sports are conducted today? Is there a role for ethical leadership in athletic competition?
