Psychology Investigates Theory, Practice and Method
Psychology is a diverse science, and for this reason courses
in our department cover a wide range of topics designed to assist
the development of a student’s theoretical, practical
and methodological sophistication in this rapidly growing field.
Ripon
is a small college with good facilities and equipment for psychology.
Our students have many opportunities to conduct observational
studies and research projects beginning with the first course
in the department. Throughout their study in psychology, students
also are encouraged to engage in field studies or independent
research for academic credit. In addition, all senior majors
conduct original research projects on topics of their own choice,
write a thesis to describe them and report them at an annual
psychology symposium on campus.
Special topics of interest frequently are pursued in meetings
with guest speakers and in informal debates in our coffee lounge.
We believe that our graduates have a knowledge of the more important
concerns of psychology and an awareness of how these findings
may be of relevance to other areas of endeavor.
