Global Studies Today

As one who has studied international affairs for a quarter-century, including first-hand experience in more than 30 countries, I am convinced that today’s students need to learn as much as they can about the world in which they live. It is for this reason that I worked with members of our faculty, administration and student body to design and implement Ripon’s Global Studies program.

Ripon is not alone in offering such a program, but our program is unique in the breadth and depth of its offerings. Every division and virtually every department is involved in one or more aspects of the program. Every faculty appointment, regardless of the disciplinary specialty, is made with an eye to the contribution it can make to Global Studies.

Formal coursework is supplemented with a wealth of co-curricular activities designed to immerse our students in a broad range of global, cultural and personal experiences. Additionally, the new Cultural Center in Harwood Union provides a comfortable setting for many of these activities, as well as a place to relax and enjoy books, periodicals, videos and exhibits with an international focus.

Ripon’s size and atmosphere guarantee an opportunity to become friends with foreign students. I am confident that every student who desires a truly global college experience will find our program an exciting and fulfilling one.
