In comparison to nine months of study at an American private college
or university, Ripon's Bonn Program fees are competitive, especially since they
are for almost 11 months of study abroad. The inclusive fee provides a 260 Euros per month food allowance, which also is paid during vacation months. Students also retain their housing during vacation times without additional cost. Students make their own travel arrangements. Three weeks prior to the Bonn Orientation start date, students' parents receive an $800 reimbursement check toward the cost of their international flights.
Mini-Orientation:
Every U.S. citizen traveling in Europe must have a valid passport.
Since it takes a minimum of two weeks to get a passport, be sure
you apply early. Germany does not require a visa to enter the country,
and students will get help in obtaining a residency permit after they
are in Bonn.
Although our fees are comprehensive, you will want to have additional funds available for weekends
or during vacations.
Since postage in Germany has become very expensive, you may prefer to communicate with parents and friends by e-mail. Some calling cards available through the Internet offer the same rates (2 to 4 cents per minute) for calls to or from Germany. Another
option is to use Internet calling options (Skype) or purchase a cell phone upon your arrival in Germany.
In the meantime, be diligent in your German classes. The more solid your knowledge base is, the more German you will be able to use and
learn in Bonn.
