Special Announcements:

The Order of Gwnfor Evans (O.G.E.) was presented to Ilah Morgan, Lee Morgan, and Olwen Morgan Welk on August 25, 2002, during the Gymanfa Ganu at Peniel Church near Pickett, WI. Trefor Williams presented the award and described the Morgan family's extraordinary contributions to Welsh American culture spanning many decades. Not only are these wonderful people known throughout Wisconsin for their contributions to cymanfaoedd canu, their names were mentioned most often among contributors to the national cymanfaoedd as well. Ilah and Olwen were presented with a plaque commemorating the honor. Unfortunately Lee could not be present because of ill health. His legendary wit and humor were missed during the afternoon and evening sessions.

Y Morganaidd: Teulu Cyntaf Wisconsin Hwyl Cymreig

Here is Wisconsin's first family of Welsh spirit at the special all request (by the Morgans, that is) gymanfa ganu given in their honor at Parkview Care Center in Ripon on Sunday, September 22, 2002. Left to right: Ilah Morgan, Lee Morgan, Olwen Morgan Welk. Below are pictures taken at the gymanfa ganu.

Left to right: Director Rev. Joe Corbin, accompanist Rev. Tom White, and soloist Trefor Williams with the Morgans.
Trefor and Joe perform an "on demand" duet of one of the Morgans' favorites.

Lee passed away in January, 2003.
All who knew him are confident that he is now a member in good standing of at least one heavenly choir.

Olwen joined Lee in heaven in June, 2006 at the age of 92.
After a lovely funeral July 8, 2006,full of the sort of hwyl she always inspired herself, the gymanfa ganu the next day in Redgranite was dedicated to her memory. The Peniel Pikett Gymanfa Ganu is slated to honor Olwen as well: it will be the first of 83 cymanfaoedd canu at the site that she has not attended!
