Julie Heinz Johnson, Head Coach

Julie Johnson reached the 200 win mark and her team led the nation in NCAA Division III Field Goal percentage during the 2004-05 season. Johnson is Ripon College's winningest coach with a career coaching record of 230-167. She has taken Ripon College women's basketball to a new level in her 17 seasons. She has coached two Midwest Conference North Division Champions and three Midwest Conference Championship teams. Also during that time, Johnson produced three Kodak/WBCA All-America Honorable Mention players, four All-Americans, seven All-Region performers, five Midwest Conference (MWC) "Players of the Year," and 38 all-conference selections while leading her program to the school's first MWC championship in 1996 and back to back MWC championships in 2004 and 2005. Summer of 2005, Johnson was inducted into the Ripon College Hall of Fame.

Johnson was named MWC Coach of the Year in 2005, 2004 and 1995. Johnson came to Ripon College in 1990 from South Dakota State University where she received her master's degree in Exercise Physiology while serving as an assistant women's basketball coach. Johnson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Dakota State University in 1988. While at Dakota State, Johnson was a four-year starter, three-time all-conference selection, the conference's Most Valuable Player in 1987 and the NAIA District 12 Player of the Year. This past summer, Johnson's 1983-84 Dakota State University women's basketball team members were inducted into the DSU Hall of Fame. In 2000, Johnson was inducted into the Dakota State University Hall of Fame and was named Dakota State University Alumni Coach of the Year in 1996.

Johnson resides in Ripon with her husband, Steve, and son, Hunter while serving as Associate Professor of Exercise Science, Exercise Science department chair, and Assistant Athletic Director.

Pat Gonyo, a 1989 graduate of Ripon College, returns for her 18th season with the Red Hawks after joining Johnson in 1990. Gonyo left her mark at Ripon as one of the all-time greats, serving as the team captain and earning 1st-Team All-Conference honors two years in a row. A former Berlin High School standout and recent inductee into the Ripon College Hall of Fame, Gonyo is listed among the top ten in numerous season and career records at the College. Gonyo previously served as an assistant basketball coach at Princeton High School and also assisted in track and field there, where her team finished second in the 1991 state finals. Gonyo currently manages a family-owned tree plantation.



Kristin Hereid, Assistant Coach

Hereid, also a former Ripon College basketball player, returns for her 10th season with the Red Hawks. Hereid was a member of the women's basketball team from 1986-1990, serving as captain her senior year. Kristin graduated from Ripon College in 1990 with degrees in Economics and Politics and Government. In 1996, Hereid earned her Masters in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University.
