{ Special Students }

Special students are those who wish to earn certification through Ripon College under unique circumstances. Often the student has earned a degree from Ripon College or from another institution. It is very important that special students discuss their program with an education advisor prior to registration for classes. The department will consider altering the sequence of classes and requirements to accommodate the need for timely completion of certification.

Requirements for admission into the post-baccalaureate program include:

  • a degree from an accredited college or university
  • a transcript showing evidence of a GPA of 3.0
  • two letters of recommendation
  • letter of application to the Department of Educational Studies
  • submission of passing scores on the PRAXIS I (PPST) exam

A student who holds a AB degree from an accredited college or university may qualify for post-baccalaureate tuition reduction for certification (tuition of $350 per credit hour). The student must apply for this reduction. (Please ask a department member for the appropriate document to complete). Under the tuition reduction a student may complete up to 17 credits per semester. If the student has a major that qualifies as a teaching major at Ripon College, s/he may anticipate four semesters of course work including student teaching. However, depending on course offerings, and full transcript review, the actual time for certification may be shorter or longer.
