Our Formula for Your Success
Our years of experience have taught us that the formula for student
success is a balance of theory and practice. Thus, the communication
major at Ripon College is designed to deepen your understanding of
the field and also to refine your ability to apply theories of communication
to real-world situations.
Most students enter the department in skills-development courses such
as Public Speaking or Debate. As a sophomore, you will begin to explore
advanced theory and history of communication. Junior year, you will
pursue advanced applications of communication via actual community-based
projects in Applied Communication and also through formal internships.
The focus on theory continues throughout the junior and senior year;
as your understanding of the field becomes more profound, you will
move into leadership roles in practical experiences. For example, you
might serve as project leader for younger students in Applied Communication
or work alongside a professor as a teaching mentor in a 100 or 200-level
class.
