A number of outstanding students choose to participate in the Oak Ridge Science Semester based at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Participants in this Fall semester program join one of the research groups at Oak Ridge, led by a research scientist who serves as a mentor.

Other students attend The Semester in Environmental Science at The Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, where they have the chance to apply their knowledge to a self-designed research project. Yet other students spend a semester in the United Kingdom at the University of Swansea, Wales.
