Chemistry is a rewarding field of studyThe study of chemistry at Ripon College is rewarding and challenging. Our students are challenged in qualitative and quantitative thinking and are prepared to communicate their knowledge in both oral and written presentations. The approaches of organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry are addressed in depth. With each of these sub-disciplines, the development of both individual and group skills are stressed. Students learn how to think clearly and solve difficult problems. Their confidence builds, and they gain a satisfaction from having mastered a difficult field of study. Students then are able to apply their abilities to
a wide variety of career interests in and out of the sciences. Many
of our graduates do go directly to graduate and professional schools.
They become doctors, dentists, college and university professors. Some
go into corporate or government research. We have graduates who have
gone into teaching chemistry and science at the elementary and secondary
school levels. Our graduates also include top-level executives, plant
managers, sales managers, lawyers, ministers, computer experts and
others who apply their skills in areas unrelated to chemistry. We have
a recent graduate who began his Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford
in the fall of 2002. The one thing that graduates commonly tell us is that
our rigorous program has taught them how to think, solve problems and
to work with people and instrumentation in a constructive manner.
